Calm Mama Herbal Tea Blend
A supportive blend for mothers at any stage, but especially in those early days when the transition can be most jarring. I crafted and drank this blend quite often in the first year of my son’s life, and found it grounding, uplifting, and soothing.
The primary player in this blend is my best friend Tulsi. Also known as holy basil, this adaptogenic herb has the reputation of grounding and balancing while increasing our resilience to stress. I turn to tulsi when I feel tired but wired, and find she helps me smooth out my mood and get my priorities straight, which often includes reminding me to prioritize rest. Tulsi’s heavenly fragrance is often enough to promote a mood shift for me, and to remind me not to take the little things so seriously. Tulsi is also has a centuries long history of increasing breast milk.
Lemon balm is a gentle nervine, so sweetly supportive and uplifting, never failing to bring a smile to my face, even if I am deeply underslept.
MIlky oats are a powerhouse of support for a new mama’s frayed nervous system. They can actually repair the myeline sheath of nerves, which can become damaged during prolonged periods of stress.
Lastly, rose rounds out this blend with her gentle sweet fragrance and taste, calming and opening the heart and lifting our spirits.
Suggested Use: Add 1 TBSP per 8 oz just boiled water. Let steep for at least 15-20 minutes, up to overnight. Enjoy warm or iced.
