Motherwort Elixir

$22.00

Motherwort’s latin name Leonurus cardiaca can shed light on her gifts. Leo means “lion”, and cardiaca means “heart,” making her the lion-hearted herb. Her English name literally means “mother’s herb” so we can see her lineage of strengthening the heart and soothing the womb space.

After working with her once or twice, you will notice the distinctly calming effect she has on an anxious heart. Soothing and comforting, she is like a mother’s hug in a bottle. She is particularly helpful when the anxiety is accompanied by heart palpitations. Motherwort is a wonderful ally during times of grief for this reason, because she both soothes and strengthens the heart space when it is taxed by the anxiety caused by the loss of someone we love dearly.

Motherwort is also calming and soothing to the womb space, having an antispasmodic effect on the uterine muscles. She also tones the uterus, which reduces cramping as well. This makes her a great ally to have on hand for expecting mothers, as she helps ease afterpains and calms and lifts the spirits during those early days as a new mother. The Western Herbalist Nicholas Culpepper tells us “there is no better herb to drive melancholy vapors from the heart, to strengthen it and make the mind cheerful, blithe and merry.”

Because motherwort is a distinctly bitter herb, I added a touch of Jones Orchard raw honey, for an even more soothing medicinal experience.
